If you are new to Card Stud poker, then knowing the basic terminology is very important. Knowing the right meanings of technical terms in poker is as important as knowing English to read this article. Let’s look at the important terms and their meaning which can clear your way to being a winner on the poker table: ( use party poker bonus code to play card stud poker)

Ante: This is first bet to be made in the game. This has to be made by all the players as this is the bet which makes up the pot for which the game is played.

Private/Pocket cards: These are the face down cards which are dealt to each player at the start of the game. The number of private cards varies in the different versions of Card Stud poker. There is 1 private card in the 5 card stud and 2 private cards in the 7 card stud.

Door card: This is the first face up card which is dealt by each player by the dealer. The value of this card determines which player will be making the bring-in.

Bring-in: This is the starting bet in the round of betting which comes after the dealing of the door card. This is made by the player who possesses the door card of the lowest value.

Wager: This word has the same meaning as the word bet.

Face up card: These cards are dealt with the face upwards so that all the players can see the cards.

Face down card: These cards are dealt with their face down so that no one is able to know the identity of the card.

Raise: To raise means to increase the amount of the previous bet.

Check: To check means to wait for the other players to make their moves in a betting round. This is done by a player when he/she is confused about the move that should be made.

Fold: To fold means to leave the game. If a player fold, he forfeits the game, leaving behind, and the amount of the bets made by him.

Live Cards: These are the cards which are either not dealt or have been dealt as private cards and so their status is not known. A player may need them to make his hand better and so waits for them to be dealt. party poker

Loose player: A players who chases the bad cards too is a loose player. He makes a bet on anything.

Tight player: This player is very restrictive with his betting. He does not bet on the bad cards and makes his moves after waiting for the right time to do so.

Pot: This is the most important part of the game as the whole game is played to win this. A pot is made up of the bets made during the game.

Split: When a single winner does not get the pot as the game is Hi-Lo, he has to split it and share it with a player who is the second winner.

Hi-Lo: This is the form of Card Stud poker in which not only the player with the strongest hand wins, but also the player with the weakest hand gets a share a pot.

Hi-cards: Cards which make up the HI hand. These are cards of value 9 and above.
